Terms of Use
Last updated September 3, 2026
These terms are the rules for using Set Straight. They are not a substitute for a lawyer, and they are not a promise about what a court will do with a record you export.
The service
Set Straight is a shared record of what each parent does for a child: expenses, support payments, parenting time, health, school, decisions, and messages. Each entry is dated, attributed, and — once saved — cannot be edited or deleted.
Set Straight is not a law firm, is not legal advice, and does not create an attorney-client relationship. It does not tell you who is right, what to file, or what a judge will decide. Admissibility of any export is always decided by the court. We describe this as court-ready documentation: integrity and timestamps you can verify, in a certified format. We do not describe it as evidence, as proof, or as a guaranteed result.
Eligibility
You must be 18 or older. Children cannot have accounts. By creating an account you confirm that you are a parent or legal guardian of the child whose record you start, or that you were invited to that record by such a person.
The record
Saving an entry is final. If you need to correct it, you add a new entry that points to the original. Both remain visible in the app and in every export.
Entries without an attachment are permanently labeled "no receipt attached", in the app and in every export. The label means no file was attached. It is not a statement about whether the entry is true.
The other parent on the child's record can see the history, including entries written before they joined. They have seven days to confirm or dispute a new entry, and thirty days after joining to dispute older ones. Delivery, reading, confirmation, dispute, and silence are all written to the audit trail. After seven days with no response, the entry is marked as such.
You can start a record alone. The other parent does not have to join for the record to exist. An invitation that is sent and not answered is itself part of the record.
Messages
Messages are part of the record: they are not edited, not deleted, and they have a daily cap so volume cannot be used as pressure. You can block messages from the other parent without breaking the child's record. Blocking is not announced to them. There is no location, no online status, and no typing indicator.
Do not use messages to threaten, stalk, or harass. We may suspend messaging — not the record — if a report holds up. A person reviews reports. Nobody is suspended by an algorithm.
Acceptable use
Don't impersonate the other parent. Don't upload someone else's documents as if they were yours. Don't try to break the hash chain, scrape the service, or use it to contact a child as a user of the app. Don't use Set Straight to violate a court order. We can suspend an account that does these things; the child's record is not erased because of that.
Subscriptions and the free record
Recording, attachments, notifications, and disputes are free. The Family plan adds messaging and certified exports, for both parents. Whoever starts the record pays; the invited parent does not.
Family is a monthly subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play: US$ 29.90 per month in the United States and R$ 29,90 per month in Brazil, charged to your store account. It renews automatically every month until you cancel. The exact price in your currency is shown in the app before you confirm the purchase.
Cancel in the store you used — Apple: Settings › your name › Subscriptions; Google: Play Store › Payments & subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Refund requests go through Apple or Google under their rules, and we will help you make one. If the paying parent cancels, both of you keep reading the record; new entries, messages, and exports pause. Response windows that already started keep running. Reactivating brings writing back. Nothing is deleted because a subscription ended.
Restore purchase is in the app, for when you change phones.
Exports
An export includes everything in the period you choose, including entries that do not help you. A one-sided record is the first thing the other side attacks. The language of the file is locked when you generate it.
A certification page describes how the record was produced and lists hashes. That page is a custodian's certificate in the sense of Federal Rule of Evidence 902(13), where that rule applies. State family courts are not identical. A named records custodian answers written requests to confirm the hashes printed on an export, and responds to a valid subpoena or court order about how the record was kept. We do not promise that a particular court will admit the file.
Your content and our license
You keep whatever rights you have in what you upload. You grant us a license to store it, show it to the co-parent on that record, hash it, and include it in exports you request, for as long as the record exists. You confirm that you have the right to upload it.
Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided as is. We do not warrant that it is uninterrupted, that a particular court will admit an export, or that using it will change a legal outcome. Some places do not allow this kind of disclaimer; in those places it applies to the extent the law allows.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Set Straight is not liable for lost profits, lost records you failed to export, or indirect or consequential damages. Our total liability for a claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty dollars, whichever is greater. This does not limit liability that the law says cannot be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence where that rule applies.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a court in your place of residence does not allow that choice, the mandatory laws of that place apply to you, and the rest of these terms still apply.
If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest remains. We may update these terms; we will change the date above and notify you in the app or by email. If you do not agree, stop using the service. The record you already made stays under the rules that applied when you made it.
App stores
If you got the app from Apple's App Store: these terms are between you and Set Straight, not Apple. Your license is non-transferable and limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store terms allow. Set Straight, not Apple, is responsible for the app, its maintenance and support, any warranty that is not disclaimed, product-liability and consumer-protection claims, and third-party intellectual-property claims. You confirm you are not in a country under a United States embargo and not on a United States list of prohibited parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. If you got the app from Google Play, Google is not a party to these terms.
